NO LIKEY, NOT LIGHTY – CONCLUDING PART

The "out" light on the far side of the Pelican crossing before repairs were undertaken.

It’s always good to report Brigg issues being resolved by the authorities.
For some weeks Brigg Blog flagged up the lights being "out" on one side of the Pelican crossing on the busy A18, opposite the China Garden takeaway.
No action was taken, but one night recently we mentioned it to Coun Nigel Sherwood – now a Cabinet member at North Lincolnshire Council – and later that week repairs were undertaken.
We also mentioned to Coun Nigel about a broken dog bin on Bigby Road, which was duly replaced within a couple of days.
Third and last on his Brigg list: The annual problem of greenery sprouting around the foot of this tree (see picture below) on Bigby Road and partially obscuring the view of motorists trying to exit from St Helen’s Road.
We gather sorting that problem is in the pipeline within the council, but as yet it has not been tackled.
These may be regarded as minor matters in the overall scheme of things and in view of North Lincolnshire Council's multi-million pound budget. But it’s often the small, localised and some might well say trivial things that matter to people's perception of how well a local authority is serving the community.
It could be that these resolved issues in Brigg were already progressing towards the top of the pile for attention by staff before Coun Sherwood took careful note. We don’t know whether that’s the case. All we can say for sure is the council has now done what needed doing.
Not quite the end of the story, though: Brigg Blog will keep watching for signs of tree-trimming activity on Bigby Road!

Foliage at the base of the tree making it difficult for drivers waiting at the top of St Helen's Road to see traffic coming down Bigby Road before joining the A1084.

  1. The traffic light unit on the old court side of the road, when approaching from the Monument roundabout, is out of alignment. As one approaches the light, the actual lights in that unit cannot be seen until one is nearly on the crossing.
It seems that the unit has been twisted/turned on its pole.
