Some of the candidates in the Brigg Town Council election are seen here patiently watching votes being totted up on Friday afternoon at the Ancholme Leisure Centre sports hall, Scawby Brook. Their goal, of course, was to get elected - and they did. As Steve Coogan’s comedy creation Alan Partridge famously says when something has gone his way: “Back of the net!” Only one of the 20 candidates who stood for election missed out on a seat, and he’s not in our picture.
Votes being counted in the Brigg Town Council election - Brigg's ballot papers being yellow. Among those looking on are Coun Ann Eardley, Coun Ben Nobbs (Town Mayor) and Coun Julian Kidd.
The North Lincolnshire Council election count for Brigg and Wolds Ward was also carried out at Scawby Brook, resulting in the return of three Conservative candidates – Coun Rob Waltham (left of picture), Coun Nigel Sherwood (second left) and Nigel's elder brother Carl (right, with back to the camera). Second right is James Truepenny who stood as an Independent; he’s chatting to Labour candidate Mike Campion (partly hidden behind Carl Sherwood). Although not elected to the North Lincolnshire authority, James and Mike were voted back to serve on Brigg Town Council, as was Carl, who topped the poll, and Rob Waltham (second). Nigel Sherwood does not sit on Brigg Town Council. It's just struck us that this picture would have been better composed in political terms if we'd had Mike towards the left and Rob, Nigel and Carl towards the right.

Is Carl really older than Nige, Nige?
ReplyDeleteI don't believe it!
If the simple words, 'left' and 'right' didn't exist, it would really be difficult to describe relative positions.
ReplyDeleteFor example, put a dot on a plain A4 sheet of paper and describe its approximate position over the phone to another person without using 'left' or 'right'.
In every group photograph of Nigel, Carl and Rob......Nigel is in the middle of the three and Rob is always to his immediate right.....
ReplyDeleteSo why was I in the middle?
