Brigg Amateur Social Historians hold their first meeting of 2011 on Tuesday (Jan 4) at Brigg Servicemen's Club, Coney Court (just off the town's main car park). It starts at 8pm - admission free, raffle to help with costs.
Tour Guide Tales of Scawby Hall is the subject of the talk, to be delivered by Ann Campion, well-known to many as a Brigg Primary School teacher and a former Town Mayoress.
Scawby Hall is the ancestral home of the Nelthorpe family, about whom Brigg Blog posted very recently - prompting correspondence between myself and Ken Harrison about the meaning of the red hand on the family crest, in respect of the 17th century baronetcy granted to Sir John, founder of Brigg Grammar School, by Charles II. Perhaps Ann will be able to settle this learned debate.
If you've yet to attend a BASH meeting, they are strongly recommended and now long-established. Refreshments are generally served and it provides a good night out for little outlay. Bar prices at "The Servicemen's" are relatively cheap, too.
Do BASH have an online event calendar? While I'm not sure I would like this talk, I certainly would like to know about others. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSova,
ReplyDeleteTry www.briggbash.org.uk - and then keep eyes peeled as their programme evolves.
Sova: Brigg Blog generally receives a report from BASH after each meeting, plus a report, which generally "plugs" the following month's talk. As with the January meeting, we try to issue a Brigg Blog reminder a few days before. You can use the search facility on Brigg Blog to look for past BASH reports. As we said: They are well worth attending.
