FACING UP TO MANDATORY MASK-WEARING IN ALL BRIGG SHOPS
The government's decision to make mask-wearing compulsory for customers within shops across the country from July 24 is a current talking point in Brigg which has retail premises ranging in size from Tesco down to very small independent outlets to which only a couple of customers at a time can be admitted.
A fine of up to £100 will be payable if the police catch people failing to comply with this directive.
Some people agree with the new edict and think it might have been done earlier, while others have reservations over the measure and its timing.
Brigg Blog has no strong views either way but is left wondering how mask-wearing might impact on crime.
CCTV cameras monitoring shops and streets in retail areas can help to identify shoplifting suspects.
For that reason, people calling at retail promises have long been expected to remove peaked caps and motorcycle helmets with visors that shield their faces.
So what about the anti-virus masks covering everything but the forehead and eyes, and in some cases more features than that?
Mandatory wearing of masks on Brigg buses has been in force for some weeks and most passengers have now got used to the requirement. However, those wearing specs are finding that steaming up of the lenses can be a problem. That's a small price to pay, though, many will think.
