THE IMPORTANCE OF MARTIN'S SHOP & POST OFFICE TO BRIGG WILL BE STRESSED TO NEW OWNER MORRISONS

Martin's shop in Brigg town centre, May 2022

Brigg Town Council is to write to major retailer Morrisons, stressing the local importance of Martin's town centre shop and the Post Office it contains.
This follows a period of uncertainty about Martin McColls shops across the UK, prior to them eventually being acquired by Morrisons, the supermarket giant.
During the Town Council's annual meeting held last night (Tuesday, May 24) Coun Rob Waltham outlined the welcome retail role played by this shop on Wrawby Street and Brigg Post Office at the rear of the premises.
He said a lot of people in the town had been concerned about the future of Martin's.
Fellow councillors supported his proposal, and a letter will now be sent to Morrisons stating the local importance of these premises and mentioning the helpful service provided by the staff.
Martin's sells a wide range of goods including newspapers and magazines, confectionery and groceries. The Post Office provides a full counter service including parcels. Martin's also has a cashpoint/ATM machine on its Wrawby Street frontage.
The local outlet and the Post Office continued to operate during the period of uncertainty when a number of other firms, in addition to Morrisons, expressed an interest in acquiring the retail chain.
