UNUSUAL SIGHTS IN BRIGG - PAST & PRESENT

Some unusual sights pop up in Brigg from time to time.
The Tesco store trolley (pictured above) found its way to East Park some time ago but always seems to be in a slightly different spot when we see it. The shopping aid is still in good nick; does the retail giant want to reclaim it?

Recently observed on Wrawby Road... a very large Christmas tree on the back of a lorry, turning left at the Monument roundabout onto Bigby Road (well before 12th Night!).

Red circles continue to be drawn around piles of dog 'poo' deposited on Brigg pavements, particularly on the St Helen's housing estate. However, one large pile which had not received a red alert at the weekend was on the pavement just a couple of yards away from one of the council's dog mess bins beside the A1084. This red circling first became evident in the town some months ago.
An unusual sight in Brigg some may remember was the town's temporary fountain. A sizeable leak appeared in the cast iron water main running along one side of the County Bridge and spouted water into the air for a considerable period. A modern replacement was installed seven years ago this month, since when there have been no issues.
During summer 2018, in another post about unusual sights, we said: "Having had a lot of hot weather of late, early one morning we saw a padded bra sticking out of a hedge on St Helen's Road. How it got there we can't explain, but it had gone by the time we walked past the following day. So perhaps the lady owner came back to collect it."
In July 2015, Ken Harrison sent us a picture of an unusual and nostalgic sight in modern day Brigg - a narrowboat moored on the River Ancholme alongside the then newly refurbished wall near the White Hart pub. "It is reputed that the crew nipped ashore and tasted the victuals and much-needed liquid succour after sailing from Hull," Ken commented.
On another occasion we were surprised to see that a big yellow excavating machine had called at the hand car wash near the Monument roundabout, prompting us to ask: What's the going rate for cleaning one of these?
A preserved Deltic diesel locomotive which hauled expresses from London to Scotland in the 1960s surprisingly came through Brigg a few years ago at the head of an enthusiasts' train. Various steam locos of greater vintage have traversed the iconic Brigg Line on similar duties, including legendary designer Sir Nigel Gresley's famous fast-moving V2 2-6-2 'Green Arrow.'
We no longer class the town's 'Penny Farthing Man' as an unusual sight, as so many townsfolk have seen him out and about on his cycle at various times.
