BRIGG CHRISTMAS FAIR CANCELLED
The Christmas Fair due to be held in Brigg towards the end of year has been cancelled... in July.
This is a very popular event and anti-Coronavirus social distancing would prove difficult, if not impossible (see picture above taken at last year's in late November).
Brigg Town Council's July meeting heard that Brigg District Lions, who organise the fair with its range of outdoor and indoor stalls, have decided that the Friday evening event cannot proceed.
The Christmas lights display, provided by the council, will go ahead. Indeed, new illuminations are to the purchased - money having already been set aside in the annual budget some months ago.
However, it is not expected that the traditional switch-on ceremony will proceed from the temporary stage erected in the Market Place.
It is not yet known if the usual late night shopping until 9pm will go ahead, but this seems unlikely as there will be no influx of people attending the Lions' fair.
Lincoln has already decided to cancel its 2020 Christmas Market in December - a decision that was mentioned during Brigg Town Council's meeting held on Thursday evening (July 16).
