Today will see the first Saturday Brigg Market since lockdown restrictions were relaxed to allow our open air stalls to resume trading.
Protective anti-Coronavirus measures were evident when the Thurday market reopened two days ago (June 4) having being suspended for weeks.
Social distancing markings added to the paving indicated where shoppers had to queue and where to stand while being served at the stalls.
Messages elsewhere on the paving urge town centre visitors to 'leave space' and to 'stay safe'.
Social distancing is still vital during the Covid-19 alert.
Brigg Town Business Partnership, representing traders, met North Lincolnshire Council earlier this week - ahead of more local businesses being permitted by the government to reopen in mid-June.
BTBP says the local authority has accepted its new Shop Safe and Smart in Brigg scheme and will be collaborating with the partnership to help deliver this initiative.
Traders will be buying their sanitisers and personal protective equipment from the council's supplier.
Shoppers will be seeing various changes within the town centre, BTBP says.
The government's Covid Legislation prohibits street furniture and A-boards from being used outside shops. That means no tables and chairs to be occupied by customers.
The council will be undertaking spraying at locations within the town centre.
As Brigg Blog suggested in an earlier post, shops will need to ensure that customer queues run parallel to their premises and do not stretch out in a line across the paving. This is to ensure social distancing from approaching pedestrians.
BTBP says the centre of Wrawby Street will be designated a No Queue Zone; waiting shoppers must be stopped from straying into this area.
A number of the small alleys and passages will be one way; those effected will be identified by signage at the entry and exit points.
BTBP is asking members to come together as a team of independents working to make Brigg "as safe as it can be in the current situation."
Traders will protect themselves, customers and their businesses to make Brigg a caring and safe place - giving confidence to shoppers to encourage them to return to the town "and shop local and independent."
