BRIGG, BROUGHTON & HIBALDSTOW CRICKET UPDATE
So-called Flaming June has arrived and the local cricket season should now be in full swing for local clubs Brigg Town, Broughton and Hibaldstow.
However, not a ball has been bowled as the 2020 campaign still awaits the lifting of Coronavirus emergency restrictions.
Some people are now suggesting it will be early August before there is any chance of the 'recreational game' resuming in the UK.
The season is due to end in mid-September.
Some clubs, including Brigg Town, cannot use their home grounds beyond the end of August when winter sports take over.
The suggested August restart may or may not prove to be correct but the midpoint of the league season is now only four weeks away.
Social distancing is difficult to achieve during a cricket match, and the ball is touched frequently by the bowlers and other fielders, although the wicketkeeper can don gloves.
Other issues include showering/changing and transport to away games - potentially involving 11 cars unless players are from the same household.

Lockdown restrictions have been relaxed for tennis by the government - subject to various procedures being in place. They are set out in the above poster near the Brigg Rec courts that are closest to Brigg Town FC's Hawthorns, pictured yesterday (Sunday). Below are some of the other courts on the site.
