BRIGG BEER FESTIVAL 2020 UPDATE
With Brigg Beer Festival usually a major event in the town at this time of year, we thought we should clarify with the organisers how things stand - especially in view of Coronavirus emergency restrictions.
Many people may be unaware that the festival was NOT planned for May 2020.
Brigg District Lions, the organising group, explained in an update received this week: "We had planned to hold the event in September this year due to challenges with a venue. However, despite the government’s plans to lift lockdown, we have taken the decision to not go ahead as planned."
The organisers rely on sponsorship from businesses to help fund this event, and due uncertainty within the economy do not feel able to seek assistance at present.
The first Brigg Beer Festival was held in 1990. The historic Angel Hotel had closed by then, but permission was granted to re-open part of the ground floor on a temporary basis.
Many festivals were hosted on Atherton Way by John Reid's transport company. The Nelthorpe Arms Barn was then used, to be followed in May 2019 by Brigg & District Servicemen's Club.
We hardly need to remind Brigg Blog followers that all UK bars are currently closed until further notice by order of the government.
