TOURISTS FROM NORWAY VISIT BRIGG BECAUSE OF 'OUR' BEER

We can now add Norway to the places from which people visit Brigg as tourists.
Over the weekend a party of football-loving Norwegians arrived and went to watch Brigg Town FC's home game.
They were  sighted in a number of town pubs, helping to lessen the effects of Storm Dennis, whose strong winds and heavy downpours meant some locals who might have visited licenses premises stayed at home instead.
We gather the group from Norway booked in at the Exchange, in the town centre.
Sources at the EC Surfacing Stadium (The Hawthorns) tipped us off that the Scandinavians would be watching Brigg's match against Parkgate.
One volunteer told us ahead of Saturday's game: "Eleven Norwegians are in Brigg this weekend as they sponsor today's home game against Parkgate, if it is on!
"They belong to a weight-lifting club called RVK in Greaker, near to Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad, and their interest was stoked by a beer called Brigg, which was brewed in Norway in the 1970s.
"Fans were delighted to welcome them to the clubhouse last night (Friday) and the guests have been kitted out in club hats and scarves. Even if the game is subject to a late postponement, the club will ensure the guests will enjoy more hospitality prior to flying home via Amsterdam and Oslo."
Another source told us they come over to the UK regularly to watch British football.
Brigg Town FC is to be congratulated, not only for giving the Norwegians such a warm welcome but also for getting the game on against Parkgate.
Every other match in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One had to be postponed because of wet conditions underfoot.
Sadly, the Zebras, who scored first through Martin Pembleton, went down to a 2-1 defeat and are 17th in the table - fourth from bottom.
The crowd, boosted by our visitors from afar, was a decent-sized 145. Even more so because of the rough weather.
On Wednesday night, Brigg were beaten 1-0 when they visited Grimsby Borough for a Lincolnshire Senior Trophy semi-final.
Brigg Town Reserves' scheduled away game at Lincoln United Development was postponed in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier yesterday.
In EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League Division One, leaders Barnetby United managed a 2-1 home win against fellow title-chasers Limestone Rangers. See pictures here, and match report below, from Lee Fielden.
Barnetby are now five points clear of Limestone and have two games in hand.
In Division Two, Barnetby United Reserves - away to bottom side Santon - won 3-1 with goals from Oliver Frith, Josh Goodman and Ryan Frankish. That victory moves the Reserves up to second place.
Brigg-based Briggensians, who are fourth, were without a Div Two match yesterday.

BATTLING RAILWAYMEN EARN HARD-FOUGHT 3 POINTS

Despite the impending presence of Storm Dennis, the Railwaymen took on Limestone Rangers at Silver Street, as 1st played 2nd.
Barnetby had the better of the opening exchanges and when an exquisite through ball from Elliott Gunn sent Will Forrest clear and he duly finished for his 8th of the season.
The game ebbed and flowed until O’Callaghan played a defence-splitting pass through for Forrest who again finished superbly to put his side 2-0 up.
O’Callaghan won a penalty on the stroke of half-time but unfortunately rolled his effort wide as the score was 2-0 at the break.
The second half was ignited on 60 minutes when Barnetby were reduced to 10 men. The resulting free kick then resulted in another free kick from which Max Batty smashed home to make it 2-1.
On 75 minutes, Popple burst down the right, Watson (from full-back) cut inside, was slipped in and his first-time cross was met at the far post by Brendan O’Callaghan to give Barnetby a 3-1 lead.
As the weather closed in the Barnetby backline held firm to secure yet another vital 3 points.
