TAKE THE TRAIN TO SUPPORT BRIGG TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB
Brigg Town Football Club have an away game coming up at Hallam on Saturday afternoon (February 8) in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One. Hallam are tenth in the table - seven places above our Zebras.
As Hallam is in the Sheffield area, there's an opportunity for Brigg fans to take a direct train from our town's railway station on Saturday, provided by the Northern company. Ask the conductor for an off-peak day return.
Paul Johnson, a keen campaigner for greater use of the iconic railway line through Brigg, tells us: "Hallam is situated in the leafy suburbs of Crosspool and the ground is famous for having quite a considerable slope and being the oldest football ground in the country.
"The fare from Brigg to Sheffield is £16 return for an adult and is valid on any permitted route.
"Brigg fans have the option of catching the early train at 09.16 and changing at Barnetby to get them into Sheffield for 11:10, or catching the later train at 11.48 which will get them in to Sheffield for 13.15.
"A number 51 bus is required to get to the ground which takes about 25 minutes and departs from the Arundel gate number 11 stop - just a 5-minute walk from Sheffield Midland Station. The 51 stops in both directions outside the Hallam football ground.
"The return train journey will be the 18.11 TPE (TransPennine Express) service to Cleethorpes, changing at Barnetby for the 19.41 service to Brigg, arriving at 19.48."
In EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League Division Two, promotion-chasing Briggensians journey to Ashby Bowl on Saturday, while Barnetby United Reserves host New Holland Villa at Silver Street (2pm KO).
Barnetby's first teamers - chasing the Division One championship - are away to Scotter United.
