BRIGG TOWN DRAW ANOTHER GOOD CROWD AS BRIGGENSIANS PUSH FOR PROMOTION

Brigg Town Football Club went down 2-1 when hosting Dronfield Town yesterday (Saturday, February 1). But the 147 attendance at the EC Surfacing Stadium (Hawthorns) was the second highest of the day in ToolStation Northern Counties East Division One.
After Dronfield had taken a first half lead, Steve McCarron levelled for Brigg on the hour but the visitors regained the lead soon afterwards.
As a result of this defeat the Zebras have dropped to 17th place in a division comprising 20 teams.
In the the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League, Briggensians moved up to second spot in Division Two with a 5-2 win over Epworth Town Colts Development at Brigg Recreation Ground.
Ben Lingard helped himself to a hat-trick and there were further goals from Justin Walker and Jamie Craigie.
Briggensians are now on course for promotion back to the top flight if they can keep up recent good form.
In Division One, Barnetby United are in second spot following a 2-2 home draw with The Butchers Arms. See report below, and action pictures, kindly provided by United's Lee Fielden. His Railwaymen are in the black and white strip.

BARNETBY BLOW 2-GOAL LEAD AS BUTCHERS BATTLE BACK

Two goals in injury time rescued a point for the Butchers Arms on yet another blustery Silver Street day.
Playing with the wind in the first half Butchers had the majority of the play in the opening stages, but Barnetby having to reshuffle their pack came into the game and Hunt and Gunn both went close.
0-0 at the turn, Barnetby opened the scoring in the 1st minute of the 2nd half as Ben Hunt ran clear to coolly slot home.
The home side were dominant now but failed to kill the game off as Goodman and Hartley missed chances.
Hunt finally scored Barnetby’s second when his cross/shot swirled on the wind and found the far top corner.
Gunn saw a long range effort as the game looked all but finished. A long punt down field by Butchers caused panic in the Barnetby back line and Jackson nipped into to score.
Remarkably then with the last kick off the game McGuire ghosted in to stab home the equaliser and leave Barnetby floored.
