THREE LIVE MUSIC GIGS IN BRIGG
The JJ Galway Band will be performing a selection of Irish pub classics at the Woolpack in Brigg town centre tonight (Saturday, January 4), from 9pm. Admission is free; pop into the Market Place venue and enjoy the tunes.
Female singer Michaela has been booked to appear there on January 11, with Mad About Mandy appearing on January 18.
The Woolpack, pictured above, is one of the Brigg hostelries that regularly provides live music gigs on Saturday nights.
Irish music, of course, used to be a feature at the Nelthorpe Arms - just the other side of the County Bridge, on Bridge Street - during the long tenure of Myles & Mary Scanlon who took over in the mid-1960s.
This historic hostelry has since closed and has been converted to purely residential use.
It was still called Scanlon's by many local people long after Myles & Mary had retired.
