'GOOD CAUSES' FOLK OUT AND ABOUT IN BRIGG DURING FESTIVE SEASON

As the festive season progresses towards Christmas and the New Year, local groups are still promoting their charities within the town, writes Ken Harrison of Brigg Matters magazine.
ABOVE: The Prostate Cancer UK group, Keith Whall, Tony Glossop and Freeman of Brigg, Tom Glossop, were collecting and offering information in the foyer of Tesco.
Forget the embarrassing latexed finger in the place where the sun is never seen, initial testing now involves simple urine and a blood tests.  The blood test measures the amount of prostate specific antigen (PSA) profile in the sample.
So there is very little excuse left for you guys (usually over 50) out there making an appointment with your GP.....1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at sometime in their lives, although not all prostate problems are cancerous, but it is wise to get a diagnosis, if any exist, as early as possible.
Don't sit on it, give your doc a ring!

In addition, the Brigg's McMillian group held a charity bazaar in the Buttercross last Saturday.  The photograph shows the local hard-working group near the end of their session - their last until next year!

And lastly, but not least, are Brigg's Rotary members David Brittain (many will recognise him as a retired headteacher from SJN), Tim Phipps and Bozena Allen, out and about and caught on camera this Saturday fundraising for the Rotary Club's objective of eliminating polio world-wide.
Some more senior readers amongst us may well remember their school days when some of their friends wore callipers and the other devastating effects of polio......and the immediate positive impact of the campaign in the late 1950s and early 60s of sugar-lumps containing SV40 vaccine had on the well-being of children.

Brigg Blog has also been given this update by the local Pancreatic Cancer Action Group, sent to us by Andrew Markham...
Saturday the 30th of November brought the curtain down on a very good awareness month.
Around £1,200 was raised from a stand on the November farmers' market and a collection around the Town's pubs. We also bumped into some generous Port Vale fans en route to Scunthorpe.
Please through you can I thank everyone in Brigg for their continued amazing support for Pancreatic Cancer action and our" Pancreas not Penis" awareness campaign to show people what a pancreas looks like.(it helped carrying a big inflatable pancreas).
Thanks also to Brigg Town FC and the hostelries of the town for allowing us to collect.
