BRIGG FAVOURITE TO BE RELAUNCHED
Brigg is to see a familiar crowd-pulling favourite re-established.
Brigg Town Business Partnership (BTBP) intends to run a Summer Fair in the town centre on Saturday, July 11 next year, to round off its Brigg Independent Week.
A meeting has been arranged next week to discuss plans for the fair, members have been told. It will be held on Tuesday, October 29 at St John's Church Hall, Bigby Street, from 7.15pm. The aim is to set up a BTBP sub-committee to host the event.
Without knowing about this planned development, Brigg Blog recently lamented the loss of the annual Charity Market which was a major event held on a Sunday in mid-July during the 1970s and 1980s before eventually being discontinued.
Brigg Chamber of Trade - a forerunner of today's Business Partnership - co-ordinated these markets.
More recently, Brigg District Lions organised Summer Fairs in the Market Place - also known as Summer Fests. There was one in 2009 and we think the last might have been held in 2015.
Prior to that, the Community Association offered rides and other attractions within the town centre, in early August, for a number of years.
As July 11, 2020 is a Saturday there's an opportunity to promote the Brigg Summer Fair to people in North Nottinghamshire, South Yorkshire, West Lindsey and North East Lincolnshire. Direct trains run to Brigg on Saturdays from Sheffield, Retford, Worksop, Gainsborough, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.
