SIZEABLE CROWD AS BRIGG TOWN HOST WINTERTON RANGERS IN FOOTBALL DERBY

The North Lincolnshire football derby saw Brigg Town FC lose 2-1 at home to Winterton Rangers yesterday (Saturday, August 17).
A crowd of 144 saw Brigg beaten in this Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One fixture at the EC Surfacing Stadium, formerly known as The Hawthorns, and the club's HQ since 1960 when it moved from the Brocklesby Ox ground, off Bridge Street.
This was the second highest attendance of the day in Division One - Retford FC attracting 181 for their home fixture.
After a goalless first half, Winterton scored twice before James Osborne got one back for the Zebras after 67 minutes. However, they were unable to find an equaliser.
Having drawn 2-2 midweek on their visit to Campion, Brigg remain 10th (mid-table) with four points from four fixtures.
Radio Humberside sent a reporter to the derby, and a bit of publicity from outside the Brigg area is always welcome.
Brigg Town Reserves lost 5-0 on their visit to Lincoln Moorlands Railway - reigning champions of the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier.
Our local sides in the Scunthorpe & District Saturday and Sunday Leagues do not begin the 2019/20 season until September.
