BRIGG & DISTRICT INVOLVEMENT IN SATURDAY & SUNDAY FOOTBALL 2019/20

Briggensians Football Club - based in Brigg - will be in action on the opening day of the EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League's 2019/20 season.
Our local side will visit Ashby Bowl for a Division Two fixture.
Briggensians' first home game is not until September 21 when they host College Wanderers in the Challenge Cup.
Barnetby United are in Division One, with Barnetby Reserves in Division Two.
Brigg company EC Surfacing Ltd, of Europa Way, continues to sponsor this league which will be celebrating its centenary in a couple of years, having been founded in 1921.
The Scunthorpe & District Sunday League will see a very interesting derby on September 29.
At Scawby Playing Fields, AFC Brigg (from Division One) will be meeting Scawby Rovers (Division Three) in a Challenge Cup tie.
Other local sides playing in the Sunday League are Hibaldstow FC, Barnetby United and Broughton WMC.
Sadly, we can't see much local amateur football being played by Brigg teams at the Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road, in the coming months.
That's a shame as the pitches are in good shape and the new changing room block is among the best on offer anywhere.
However, the fact there are only two Scunthorpe & District Saturday divisions and three on Sunday speaks for itself.
Far fewer people are interested in playing competitive football these days compared with how things were 20, 30 or 40 years ago.
Back then, both pitches at Brigg Rec were often fully booked every weekend.
It was not unusual on Sundays to see two matches kick off at 10.30am, to be followed by two more in the afternoon.

There's only one full-sized football pitch now, following the creation of the floodlit, all-weather 'Blue Astro' hockey facility.
On a more positive note, Brigg Town Football Club is running two senior Saturday teams for 2019/20, compared with one last season.
The top side is in Toolstation Northern Counties East Division One, with Brigg Town CIC Reserves in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League Premier.
Some teams from outside Brigg will be using the Rec for fixtures on Sundays from time to time, bookings being made through North Lincolnshire Council which has pitches at various locations.
We note that in the Challenge Cup on Sunday, September 29, Mulligans will be meeting Zeera  at the Rec.
A recent trip to Wrawby gave us the opportunity to photograph this football pitch, pictured below, with goalposts in place, next to the Village Hall.

Brigg Blog will be posting weekly previews of local football matches and bringing you results and news throughout the 2019/20 season.
