SECOND PHASE OF NEW HOUSING PLANNED FOR PUB SITE IN BRIGG AREA
A new use is planned for part of the site once occupied by a well-known pub within the Brigg area until its demolition last year after being closed for some time.
North Lincolnshire Council is now considering an application seeking permission to build six homes on the sizeable site of the former Railway Inn, on Kings Road, Barnetby.
What's planned is the second phase of residential development, the first being very well advanced.
Phase two is aiming to provide three pairs of semi-detached properties.
The Braithwaite family ran the Railway Inn for more than 100 years until the late 20th century.
It had been a pub since the 1850 - just a few years after the opening of the nearby station, which is still the largest in North Lincolnshire.
When Barnetby boasted its own market, many farmers and customers frequented the Railway Inn, which was close by.
Barnetby's other pub, the Whistle and Flute - directly opposite the station entrance - is still operating today, serving drinks and meals.
