It's now 18 months since a national company closed its shop in Brigg town centre - and the premises are still unoccupied.
Thankfully, Brigg is not like many small market towns which are littered with 'To Let' and 'For Sale' signs above empty premises.
But the unit that used to be Greggs occupies a very prominent location midway along Wrawby Street within the pedestrian area. So it's disappointing and somewhat surprising to see it stand empty for a year and a half.
Greggs served its last sandwich in Brigg on Saturday, November 25, 2017.
We were among the final customers, buying a ham and salad takeaway sandwich and a chocolate slice.
One of the top bakery chains in the country, Greggs offers savoury pasties, sausage rolls, sandwiches, cakes, drinks and snacks.
It has headquarters in Newcastle and has been helping to feed the nation for more than three-quarters of a century.
In addition to the former Greggs shop, Brigg would also welcome someone taking over the ex-HSBC and NatWest bank premises in the Market Place, which are still being advertised for sale or rent months after closure.
This notice is still on display in Greggs shop within Brigg town centre, 18 months after it closed. |
