Five of Lincolnshire’s racehorse trainers are set to compete for a share of the honours on the annual Associated British Ports County Raceday at Market Rasen Racecourse on Friday (June 21)..
Nine horses trained in the county have been entered in the seven races on a day when adults can buy tickets in advance for just £10.
Conor Dore, whose stables are near Boston, could send hat-trick seeking Hurricane Rita – a grey mare with two victories to her name already this month – into the Inter Terminals “Flying The Flag” Mares Handicap Hurdle.
The extended two-mile contest is also under consideration for trainer Steve Gollings’ Rococo Style, who is owned by a number of staff in The Jockey Club including the racecourse’s General Manager Nadia Powell. The mare was placed in a race last month at Southwell, the track at which she won on her racecourse debut.
Conor Dore has two other potential runners on Friday, with Grantham trainer Laura Morgan also considering three horses for outings, including Cake De l’Isle, a winner at Kelso Racecourse a month ago, in the DFDS “Summer Plate Trial” Handicap Chase.
Brigg’s Nick Kent is hoping that Picknick Park can win at the 19th time of asking – with 13 of those races having been at Market Rasen – in the Unifeeder Novices’ Handicap Chase.
Michael Chapman, who trains in Market Rasen, has put L’Es Fremantle – an 80-1 winner at her local track last autumn – into two races.
The highest rated horses on Friday are in the DFDS “Summer Plate Trial” Handicap Chase which could feature potential runners in Market Rasen Racecourse’s major race of the year, the Betway Summer Plate which takes place in front of ITV’s cameras on Ladies’ Day on Saturday, 20th July.
All eyes will be on Champagne At Tara, trained by Jonjo O’Neill and placed in a Grade 3 race at the Randox Health Grand National Festival at Aintree in April, and trainer Neil King’s Princeton Royale who was in fine form during the spring.
On County Racedays, like Friday, the racecourse opens all its facilities for one set admission price, meaning everyone can enjoy the best that’s on offer. All are able to utilise the County Enclosure, with the best views, bars and eateries – as well as the rest of the racecourse, including watching the horses in the parade ring.
