Brigg Blog was very pleased to see that neighbouring Gainsborough has been given a new hourly train service linking in with Sheffield on weekdays.
But we are very sorry that these trains are not travelling as far as Brigg and Kirton Lindsey - the next stops along the iconic Brigg Line.
Our station continues to receive the very spare Saturdays-only service that has operated for the past 25 years - without any sign of improvement.
The local passenger service from Doncaster to outlying villages and towns in South Yorkshire continues through the Isle of Axholme at Crowle and Keadby & Althorpe before terminating at Scunthorpe.
We were hoping that something similar might happen with the new trains from Gainsborough, with Kirton and Brigg being added and also (perhaps) Barnetby. But this has not proved to be the case.
Could North Lincolnshire Council make an official request, on behalf of local users of public transport?
BBC Look North gave welcome coverage to the opening of the new train service in Gainsborough.
However, it did not 'look north' in geographical terms and make reference to Kirton and Brigg not being included on the route.
Perhaps programme host Peter Levy and his political editor colleague Tim Iredale could revisit this topic and put forward the case for these towns in North Lincolnshire to be included.

People journey to Gainsborough to visit the impressive Marshall’s Yard shopping centre.
Market Rasen Racecourse, which many people from the Brigg area visit, tells us that this year’s Style Awards on Ladies’ Day - the most fashionable meeting of the year at the Lincolnshire course - will be held in partnership with Marshall’s Yard.
The big day on Saturday, July 20, which is held in association with Lincs FM, features the foremost horse race of the year, the Betway Summer Plate broadcast live on ITV, and always attracts one of the largest audiences of the year.
Racegoers will be encouraged to dress to impress and enter the Marshall’s Yard Style Awards for a chance to win £5,000 in prizes and watch fabulous fashion shows throughout the afternoon on the Brocklesby Lawn within the Tattersalls Enclosure.
Marshall’s Yard will also be offering Ladies’ Day ticket holders special offers and discounts.
