Although Nick Beacock, pictured above, did well with the ball, Brigg Town Cricket Club suffered a disappointing home defeat at the Recreation Ground yesterday (Saturday, May 25), largely due to a shortage of runs after tea.
Town hosted Haxey 2nds in Lincolnshire County Cricket League Division Three but suffered a 92-run reverse.
Brigg managed to reduce the visitors to 91 for six, but a late flurry of runs lifted the total to a reasonable 161.
However, Town only managed 69 in reply - the only double-figure scores being 22 from David Baggott and an unbeaten 13 by Nick Beacock.
Earlier, Nick had been Brigg's most effective bowler, taking four for 56 in 14 overs, while Danny Minshall managed three for 26.
That result sees Haxey, who gained 20 points, climb above Brigg (five points) into the second promotion spot behind runaway leaders Broughton 2nds, who yesterday beat Messingham by four wickets.
Brigg's record so far is two wins, two defeats and two games abandoned due to rain - adding up to a pretty reasonable start after moving up a division following promotion.
Yesterday was the first time this season that Brigg managed to complete a home game.

Brigg won the toss and elected to field, hoping to bowl Haxey out cheaply. Both sides were missing several players, Haxey missing two juniors who have made crucial contributions in recent weeks, one with a broken leg and one to a family half term holiday. Brigg were missing influential batsman Bell and opening bowler Brock.
Haxey were 21-3 and then 91-6 before Mark Parkin and Darren Johnson added 61 for the 7th wicket, Haxey eventually bowled out for 161 in the 43rd over, probably 60 or 70 runs more than the home side had hoped. Nick Beacock 4-56 and D Minchell 3-26.
In reply the Brigg top order was blown away by Yorkshire Terriers Disability opening bowler William Baxter who claimed 3-3 in his first three overs, finally wrapping up the innings to finish with 5-28, the hard work over the winter preparing for the upcoming Paralympics has seen him gain a few yards in pace.
In between veteran off-spinner Mark Atkins-Sloan claimed 4-6, at one stage had 4-1. D Baggott top scoring for Brigg with 22. Brigg eventually bowled for 69 in the 22nd over.
Broughton first teamers are through to the semi-finals of the Bob Welton Cup after a comfortable home win over Appleby-Frodigham 2nds yesterday.
Brett Fish performed well with the ball, taking four for 16.
Hibaldstow are also through to the semis, having rattled up a daunting 262 for nine on their visit to Holton-le-Clay 2nds - Joe Taylor leading the way with 73.
