BRIGG FOOTBALL TEAM TRIUMPHS IN CUP FINAL AT THE HAWTHORNS

Briggensians after their Scunthorpe League cup final win at Brigg Town Football Club in April 2019

Brigg Town Football Club hosted the EC Surfacing Scunthorpe & District Football League's Ironstone Cup final at The Hawthorns on Thursday night (April 11).
Report below from Lee Fielden, an official of the league and Barnetby FC. Lee has also included this picture of the winners.
Briggensians are a Brigg team, as you may have guessed.

Briggensians take their chances to lift the cup

Briggensians lifted the Ironstone Cup, sponsored by Johnson’s Transport, 4-2 following a highly entertaining game at The Hawthorns.
Briggensians flew out of the traps and were 2-0 up before Barnetby knew what had hit them. The Railwaymen clawed their way back into the game and had the bulk of the play and chances but following a close offside call making it 3-0 and Ben Lingard grabbing his hat trick with his 31st of the season they trailed 4-0 at the break.
With nothing to loose in the 2nd half Barnetby went for broke, dominating play but the ball would not find its way into the net. Goodman hit the right hand post with a free kick and O’Callaghan the left hand post and other chances were spurned.
With 25 minutes remaining Goodman finally broke through and when O’Callaghan sailed in a free kick that evaded everyone it was 4-2 and game on.
Barnetby threw the kitchen sink at Briggensians but Neal and North at the heart of their defence were resolute and manfully repelled each attack as they came.
The final whistle brought an end to a thoroughly entertaining final and thoughts of what might have been for Barnetby.
Congratulation to Briggensians.
