STRIKE SUSPENDED: PASSENGER TRAINS SET TO RETURN TO THE BRIGG LINE

Passenger trains will be calling again at Brigg railway station in the near future after a gap of many months.
There's been a long-running industrial dispute between the Northern by Arriva company and the RMT union about retaining guards/conductors on trains.
But now, following arbitration, a formula has been agreed that is acceptable to both sides.
The RMT, which has agreed to suspend its Saturday strike action, says the company has confirmed its willingness to accept:

  • That for the duration of the current franchise every train will run with a conductor on board in addition to the driver
  • Where new or modified rolling stock is being introduced, every train will continue to run with a conductor.
Meanwhile, the company says the RMT has agreed to suspend its strike action "and recommence talks about the future role of the conductor."
As far as passengers are concerned, Northern anticipates Saturday services getting back to normal from February 16.
Something below a full service will operate this Saturday (February 9) and Northern is currently suggesting that it will be unable to provide trains to and from Brigg.
