PEDESTRIAN CROSSING/REFUGE ISLAND PLANNED NEAR NEW ALDI STORE IN BRIGG
A site plan for the proposed new Aldi store in Brigg shows a "proposed pedestrian crossing with refuge island" close by on Bridge Street.
This is indicated on the A18 directly opposite the foodstore.
The same plan also indicates 107 parking spaces with two pedestrian crossings inside the site to benefit customers, plus some cycling hoops.
A new roundabout on Bridge Street - at the top of Island Carr Road - is proposed to serve the site.
North Lincolnshire Council granted detailed planning permission two years ago, but building work has yet to start.
Aldi recently submitted an amended plan for a slightly larger store with floor space of 1,315 sq metres (an increase of 61 sq m on the original).
This application is being supported by Brigg Town Council and will now go before the local planning authority for a final decision.
An agent for Aldi recently told planners: "The scope and parameters of the changes sought have no material impact over that originally approved, and no impact on other aspects of the development which have previously been accepted by the council, and supported by members."
When granting planning permission for the initial application in September 2016, North Lincolnshire Council stipulated that store opening hours shall be restricted to 8am to 10pm, Mondays to Saturdays; and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
When Brigg Town Council's Planning & Environment Committee discussed the latest application and agreed it was "in support" a councillor mentioned the possibility of a Zebra crossing near the new store.
