A new timetable for trains calling at Brigg, Barnetby and Kirton Lindsey comes into operation from December 9.
The Brigg line will still only have a Saturday service, with three trains in each direction to Grimsby and Cleethorpes, Gainsborough, Retford and Sheffield.
Times of trains to Grimsby and Cleethorpes, given in the Northern Company's timetable to operate from December 9, 2018 to May 18, 2019, are:
- Kirton Lindsey 9.10am, Brigg 9.19am, Barnetby 9.38am.
- Kirton Lindsey 1.12pm, Brigg 1.21pm, Barnetby 1.32pm.
- Kirton Lindsey 5.10pm, Brigg 5.19pm, Barnetby 5.34pm.
- Barnetby 11.40am, Brigg 11.48am, Kirton Lindsey 11.56am.
- Barnetby 3.36pm, Brigg 3.43pm, Kirton Lindsey 3.52pm.
- Barnetby 7.41pm, Brigg 7.48pm, Kirton Lindsey 7.57pm.
It's been drawn to Brigg Blog's attention that the first train of the day heading east is scheduled to take 19 minutes to reach Barnetby, while the next reaches the village in only 11.
Passengers need to take these timings into account when looking for connections at Barnetby to travel to other parts of Lincolnshire and beyond.
We're also told that the nine-minute allowance for trains to get from Kirton Lindsey to Brigg may prove testing.
Having said that, Brigg people who like to travel by train from our station on Saturdays will be looking forward to making more journeys along the iconic line that was once the pride of the Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway.
This later became the Great Central, which had a London terminus at Marylebone.
We visited this impressive station very recently while making a family visit down south.
Sadly, it was on a Friday, with no trains running from Brigg, so we took the Hornsby bus from Brigg to Scunthorpe and then the National Express coach to London.
Decades ago we'd have been able to take a Friday train from Brigg to Retford or Sheffield and then board one heading for London.
Efforts to resolve the current long-running dispute between a rail union and the company that operates Brigg line trains, and many others, recently collapsed, according to the RMT. View details here...
