NEW HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL FOR BRIGG AWAITING THE FINAL GO AHEAD
The installation of a new Holocaust Memorial in Brigg moved a stage nearer when Brigg Town Council supported a planning application submitted for the sculpture by the North Lincolnshire authority.
The scheme now progresses to North Lincolnshire Council planners for a final decision to be made.
The proposed location for the memorial is the Millennium Green, between Elwes Street and the Old River Ancholme.
Brigg Town Council's Planning & Environment Committee - meeting in the Angel Suite - was "in support" of the application for the sculpture, which will be made from Corten steel.
However, Coun Chris Dyson was disappointed with what he saw as a lack of visual detail presented in the application.
Although creating a second entrance/exit to the Millennium Green was not included in the application, Coun Jane Kitching suggested this improvement was still necessary. But she asked: "Has this actually been recognised?"
Coun Jane Gibbons explained that the memorial was planned to be sited on an area of the green near the scout hut on Elwes Street.
The new sculpture has been designed by a student from Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg, who won a local competition relating to this project.
Brigg Town Council is among local authorities which remember Holocaust victims with a poignant ceremony held at dusk every January. View further details here...
The town's first Holocaust Memorial was erected many years ago within the town centre's Angel building.
