NEW FOOTBALL SEASON KICKS OFF IN LEAGUE SPONSORED BY BRIGG COMPANY
Brigg football team Briggensians were not in action yesterday (Saturday, September 1) but Barnetby United Reserves did play on the opening day of a competition being sponsored by Brigg company EC Surfacing Ltd, of Europa Way.
FROM PAUL BIRKITT, LEAGUE TREASURER & FIXTURES SECRETARY
The new EC Surfacing Ltd Scunthorpe & District Football League season got under way slowly with only three games.
Disappointingly, there are only 18 teams in the league this season - the lowest it has ever been, despite the efforts of the committee to attract from junior and intermediate football but to no avail.
The other disappointment is the lack of reserve teams from the senior clubs in the area which surely must have an effect on them as well.
However, back to the games played...
In Division One newly-promoted Crosby Colts didn’t help their cause when they had two players sent off and lost 3 – 2 to The Butchers Arms, scorers for Crosby Colts being Simon Wilson and Ryan Taylor, with George Carylon, Oliver Hawker and Ben Gearing scoring for The Butchers Arms.
In Division Two, two goals from Dominic McGuire and one from Liam Dawson gave Barnetby United Reserves a 3 – 0 win against Santon.
Relegated Sherpa got of to a winning start - goals from Stephen Broughton and Kyle Reeves gave them a 2 – 1 win against Crosby Colts Reserves, whose goal was scored by Luke West.
