BRIGG TOWN COME OUT ON TOP
Final tables have now been issued for the Lincolnshire County Cricket League's 2018 season, which ended on Saturday (September 15) showing Brigg Town sitting proudly at the top of divison four, having lost only one of their 14 fixtures.
Through social media, Brigg have already sent their best wishes to neighbouring Caistor on securing the premier division championship at the weekend with a convincing win at their Brigg Road ground on the edge of the town.
Broughton Cricket Club's first team finished fourth in division one, calling at Brigg's Yarborough Hunt pub to bring the curtain down on another enjoyable season.
Broughton 2nds ended the campaign third from bottom in division three, while Hibaldstow finished sixth (mid-table) in division two.
There will be much to discuss during the league's annual general meeting in November, including confirming which teams will constitute each of the five divisions next season.
A new Supplementary Cup was introduced as an experiment this season and club representatives attending the AGM will need to decide whether this will be continued in 2019.
Teams from the lower divisions played each other in four small groups, on a round robin basis, to decide the semi-finalists.
There were fewer overs - 30 an innings rather than the 45 assigned in divisional matches.
Brigg Town were pleased to be back playing at the Recreation Ground this season following refurbishment of facilities by North Lincolnshire Council.
The community room - at the side of the changing room building - was used for teas and proved popular with players and spectators.
It was heartening to see the number of former Brigg players, now retired, who went along to watch the present-day squad in action.
UPDATE, TUESDAY 10am: A slight correction to the table above, notified to us by Haxey. They finished second with 199pts.
