BRIGG REVEALS THE TOWN'S TOP GARDENS, ALLOTMENTS AND FLORAL DISPLAYS 2018

The top gardens, allotments and hanging baskets in Brigg for 2018 have been decided, together with the best school garden and the business with the most distinctive floral display.
The popular competition was organised by Brigg Town Council and sponsored by Brigg Garden Centre, Bigby High Road, which donated vouchers as prizes.
Awards were presented during a coffee morning in the Angel Suite, with raffle, refreshments and tombola.
Proceeds will go to Town Mayor Coun Donald Campbell's appeal fund, which is raising money for Pancreatic Cancer Action throughout his year as the community's first citizen.
He presented some of the awards, with other winners receiving theirs from Karen Deeley and Andrew Markham who have family links with particular trophies.
There was a major change to the competition this year with members of the public being invited to make nominations, rather than councillors drawing up a short list for final judging.
During the prize-giving yesterday morning (Saturday, September 1) the following received certificates, with the most highly-placed also gaining trophies and vouchers, as detailed below.

BEST FRONT GARDEN
Winner - Derek Capp, 18 Almond Grove, cup & vouchers; runners-up - Mr and Mrs G Day, 1 Poplar Drive, vouchers; 3rd place - Mrs Dent, 12 Elm Way, vouchers; certificates of merit - Ann Eardley, 30 Almond Grove, and Mr and Mrs Mumby, 3 Bramble Way.

HANGING BASKETS
Winner - Thomas Morrison, Clayside, Westrum Lane, trophy & vouchers; runners-up - Mr and Mrs Mumby, 3 Bramble Way, vouchers; certificate of merit - Mr and Mrs Winn, 14 East Parade.

SCHOOL  (PRESENTED BY KAREN DEELEY)
Winner - Brigg County Primary, Atherton Way, trophy & vouchers.

BUSINESS/ORGANISATION (PRESENTED BY ANDREW MARKHAM)
Winner - Ancholme Mews, Bigby Street, shield & vouchers; runner-up, The Hungry Fisherman, Coney Court, vouchers; certificate of merit - The Lord Nelson Hotel, Market Place.

ALLOTMENTS
Winner - Val Bacon, cup & vouchers; runner-up - Jason Ladley, vouchers.

Derek Capp told Brigg Blog after the presentations that he was dedicating his award in memory of his father, Harry,  of East Parade, who was a keen very gardener.
Receiving an award at the ceremony was also a proud moment for some pupils from Brigg County Primary who had been involved with their school's display.
Not all the award winners were able to make it to the presentation ceremony, but Brigg Blog photographed  those who did attend, and here they are...

Third place in the best front garden category went to 12 Elm Way, Newlands Estate, (Mrs Dent).

Coun Ann Eardley gained a certificate of merit in the front garden category for 30 Almond Grove, Newlands Estate, having been nominated by a member of the public.

The Hungry Fisherman, Coney Court, was runner-up in the business/organisation category. On the left is Andrew Markham, who presented the award,  and  on the right Brigg Town Mayor Coun Donald Campbell.
