Earlier this year North Lincolnshire Council granted planning permission for housing on the former pub site, the applicant being Lewis Dillon, of Scunthorpe.
The new housing development is very handily placed for public transport - there's a bus stop opposite (with services to Brigg, including the X4 express) while Barnetby railway station - North Lincolnshire's largest - is just around the corner.
Many people reckon they would love to live near a pub. Here's an opportunity to live on a site where one was established in the reign of Queen Victoria, circa 1850.
The Railway Inn enjoyed a good deal of custom from nearby Barnetby livestock market until that facility's demise half-a-century ago. The pub served food and drink to buyers and farmers. The village maltings were also close by.
The Braithwaite family ran the Railway Inn for 109 years, and during the Second World War it received extra beer rations due to the close proximity of the RAF base at Elsham.
There are a number of other local examples of new housing being built on the site of well-known pubs after their demolition, including Brigg's Brocklesby Ox and Ancholme Inn.
In addition, the Nelthorpe Arms, on Bridge Street, is being converted into three residential dwellings, planning approval having been recently granted.
