AUTUMN DOUBLE FOR BRIGG OPERATIC
Brigg Amateur Operatic Society has announced details of its autumn 2018 production and a fundraising event.
There will be a fashion show on Thursday, October 4, involving Lincs Fashions, to raise money for forthcoming show The Sound Of Music.
The show and clearance sale will be at Barnetby Primary School, from 7.30pm.
Bargain clothes for all seasons - smart to casual - will be on sale.
Tickets for this event cost £5 and are now available from Brigg Beds, on the corner of Princes Street and Bigby Street.
The society's next show will be at The Plowright Theatre, on Laneham Street, Scunthorpe, from November 20 to 24.
For Sound of Music tickets, visit the venue - named after Brigg actress Dame Joan Plowright (Lady Olivier) - or call the Box Office on 0844 8542776. They range in price from £10 to £12.
Brigg Operatic Society was formed in 1903 - making its one of the town's oldest groups.
Shows were performed at the Corn Exchange and later at Vale of Ancholme School (The Vale Academy) but now take place at The Plowright, formerly Scunthorpe Civic Theatre.
Long-serving member Peter Bell produced a fine book in 2003 to mark the society's 100th anniversary.
He was a notable sportsman with Brigg Town Football Club (on the old Brocklesby Ox ground) and Brigg Hockey Club, playing the latter sport at county level. He retired from playing, aged 57, in the late 1980s.
Peter was an advertisement representative with the Lincolnshire Times newspaper and later the Hull Daily Mail.
If you haven't read his book, pictured below, watch out for copies possibly being donated to Brigg charity shops.
It's a very thorough work and lavishly illustrated with pictures from the past.
