BRIGG BLOG PLANS TO TAKE A BUTCHER'S...

Does Brigg Servicemen's Club hold a local longevity record for town centre licensed premises?
We note that there's still a weekly meat board/raffle competition operating at the Coney Court venue - just as there was back in the 1980s when we first joined as a member.
Back then it was run as a fund-raiser for the football section and the draw was made before a packed house in the concert room at the weekend - between the bingo and "the turn."
We were lucky winners on one occasion and took home what was called a breakfast selection but was much more than that. It was a truly huge selection!
Judging by a recent picture we've seen that's helping to promote what's now called the meat draw, nothing much has changed in that respect.
Raffle tickets are available from behind the bar at 50p a strip.
The draw is held every Friday at 9pm - with first, second and third prizes on offer.
We haven't visited "The Club" for some time but must make a point of dropping by.
We've no idea which local butcher provided the meat in the 1980s, but Waters, Turner's and Barnard's would have been going in those days, and the latter is still trading on Bridge Street.
