Youngsters living in Brigg and district may well be interested in apprenticeship vacancies on offer at North Lincolnshire Council.
Going to university or undertaking full-time further education at a college does not suit everyone and some younger folk will be keen to get a paying job, so an apprenticeship might well suit them.
Take mum, dad or your guardian along with you, or go on your own (see our helpful transport details below).
FROM KIRSTY WESTFIELD, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
The council is hosting an Employability and Apprenticeships Open Event on Friday 24 August at Scunthorpe Central** from 10am to 2pm.
It’s an opportunity for young people to find out what apprenticeships are available at the council and get support and advice on applying for jobs.
Have you completed your A Levels or GCSEs and don’t know where to turn to next? Come along to the event and see if the apprenticeship route is right for you.
At the event you can get support in completing your CV and application forms, and receive impartial career advice.
The council’s Apprentice Programme Co-ordinator will be on hand to answer any questions about being an apprentice for the council, dispel any myths around being an apprentice and tell you about the exciting opportunities the council have.
Some of the upcoming apprenticeships include:
- Administration Assistants
- Trainee Engineer
- Community Operatives
- Early Years Educator
The event is open to anyone interested in apprenticeships or those looking for support in applying for an apprenticeship. Just drop-in anytime between 10am and 2pm.

Cllr John Davison, cabinet member for Business Transformation, said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn practical skills on the job combined with education, which means you can earn while you learn.
“Over the past few years, we have supported hundreds of apprentices in a wide range of roles to develop and start their career. We are continuing to provide apprenticeship opportunities across the council and we will be highlighting these at the event.
“If you are unsure on whether further education or a job is the right way for you, why not come along to the event and find out more details.”
N.F. ADDS: ** The Scunthorpe Central community facility is located within the old central library near the main Precinct shopping area. So Hornsbys X and No 4 bus services from Brigg will drop you close by at Scunthorpe bus station. Buses to and from Brigg run every half-hour on Fridays. There's an X bus leaving Cary Lane at 9am if you want to get there at the start of the event. Scunthorpe Central was officially opened in June by Brigg's Coun Rob Waltham, leader of the council.
