Two players shone with outstanding individual performances as Brigg Town Cricket Club recorded another welcome home win at the blisteringly hot Recreation Ground, off Wrawby Road, yesterday (Saturday, July 14).

In those conditions, the best place to be was on the sidelines, watching the action (see picture above) with a cool-box full drinks to hand!
Brigg made a decent start to their innings before suffering a major collapse which put them in danger of being bowled out for a moderate total.
However, star batsman Matthew Bell turned things round with an unbeaten 81 to lift the score to 179, the home side  finally being dismissed with five balls remaining in the 45th and final over.
With veteran strokemaker Neil Calvert hitting 61 after tea, Alford replied with an all-out 114, as Brigg bowler Tom Brock claimed a decisive seven for 57.
This victory saw Brigg extend their lead at the top of Lincolnshire County Cricket League division four, as second-placed East Halton dropped 10 points in a thrilling tie against third-placed Haxey 2nds.
Result: Brigg Town (20 pts) beat Alford 2nds (5 pts) by 65 runs.
Umpire: Les Wilkinson.
Next game: Saturday, July 21 - Brigg Town v Keelby 2nds (Brigg Rec, 1.30pm start).
