SHOPPERS IN BRIGG ARE WRONG IF THEY THINK THIS IS A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

Brigg Blog has observed several recent instances of pedestrians treating this as an official crossing - clearly expecting approaching drivers to stop for them.
In one case a woman just stepped out in front of a car, which had to pull up to avoid a collision.
MOST vehicles are only going slowly at this point on Old Courts Road, adjoining the town's main car park. However, despite this being regarded by many on foot as a crossing, it is not. It's a traffic hump (speed retarder).
So motorists have the right of way.
Clearly, pedestrians crossing near the Boyes store should know this. But they are not all local people familiar with Brigg.
Advisory/warning signs on either side would help in terms of road safety. But could the expense be justified by North Lincolnshire Council, the highway authority? Probably not.
So we are trying some local publicity  to alert drivers and pedestrians about being vigilant at this location on Old Courts Road. Please help spread the word via social media posts.

  1. believe it or not people have the right of way at all times on the road. common sense says make sure you've got the drivers eye before crossing [even for a zebra crossing]he has to slow down anyway it's a 5mph speed limit so make sure you can cross in time
