THE BELL TOLLS AS BRIGG TOWN CRICKETERS LOSE OPENING GAME OF THE SEASON

Despite a super innings from Matthew Bell, pictured above, and good bowling from Tom Brock, pictured below, Brigg Town Cricket Club lost their opening game of the season in  Lincolnshire County Cricket League division four yesterday (Saturday, May 5).
Brigg journeyed to Immingham to take on East Halton, who posted 165 for nine in their permitted 45 overs, Brock taking five for 35 in 14 overs.
Town made a poor start to their reply and wickets fell regularly.
However, they were still in with a chance, and meeting the required run rate, as Matthew Bell set about the bowling.
Sadly, he ran out of partners and finished undefeated on 81 as Town were dismissed for 138 with 11.2 overs remaining to be bowled and only 28 runs required for victory.
Had Brigg managed to dismiss Halton opener James Mikkonen, who hit 96, earlier than they did it could have been a different story. He was eventually run out.

Brigg collected five bonus points from this game, with East Halton gaining 20 points for their outright win.
