THOSE WERE THE DAYS OF MIS-SPENT YOUTH SAYS BRIGG MATTERS' KEN HARRISON
Ken Harrison, of Brigg Matters Magazine, took these scooter pictures outside the Harrison's Hideaway eatery beside Smithy's Pond on Island Carr, off Bridge Street.
He tells us they feature a 125cc Lambretta - manufactured in 1963.
"Those were the days of the 1963 winter, the national emergence of the Beatles and the assassination of JFK," Ken recalls.
"Those were the days when 16 year olds could ride a motorbike, up to 250cc solo on a provisional licence.
"Those were the days of change and ambition. Everything seemed possible....a bit like the speedo on the Lambretta, which implied the scooter could achieve a top speed of 95mph!
"40mph, downhill with a tail-wind was the reality..."
Spring and summer sees groups of old scooter fans stopping off in Brigg during ride outs on Lincolnshire roads. Wetherspoon's White Horse is a favoured spot.
