DRIVER ALERT: TWO POTHOLES ON BUSIEST STRETCH OF ROAD IN BRIGG

Brigg Blog today suggests that urgent repairs are required to fix two potholes on the busiest stretch of road in the town - used by thousands of drivers every week.
North Lincolnshire Council, as the local highway authority, needs to get a team out to fill them in and avoid potential damage to vehicles' tyres, wheels and suspensions.
But there is a problem. The potholes are on the A18 Monument roundabout and major traffic congestion will result if repairs are undertaken during daylight hours.
A road closure notice might also be required - though hopefully not.
As our pictures show, the potholes on the Monument roundabout, close to the Tintab shelter, are in the centre of the carriageway - heightening the chance of wheels being dipped.

RECEIVED FROM NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL EARLIER THIS WEEK

From today (Monday 16 April) North Lincolnshire Council highways teams will be concentrating on carrying out permanent repairs to roads, having repaired more 2,856 potholes in the last five weeks.
A dedicated reactive team will still be deployed to respond to emergency pothole repairs, while other crews will be repairing larger stretches of road.
From Monday 16 April, the teams will be repairing roads in the following areas:

  • Bottesford various streets
  • Barton
  • Barrow
  • Goxhill
  • North and South Killingholme
Cllr Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds), leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “I want to thank residents for reporting potholes and would encourage people to continue reporting them as it helps identify where they are and enables us to prioritise a programme of work for the week ahead.
“We have repaired almost 3,000 potholes now and are now concentrating on carrying out more permanent repairs. We will still be responding to urgent repairs and I would encourage people to continue to report potholes they come across, as this is really helpful to us.
“I think the vast majority of people understand that we are doing everything we can and I’d like to thank them for bearing with us while we carry out the repairs.”

Coun Rob Waltham, of Brigg, says North Lincolnshire Council has already repaired almost 3,000 potholes across the district.

UPDATE: 9.50am WEDNESDAY: Brigg Blog has reported the potholes to the council using its online portal. An email was generated to say the authority had received our submission.
