BRIGG REPRESENTED AT THE FUNERAL OF BRYAN SIMPSON WHICH FEATURED FAMOUS SPORTS THEME TUNE

Despite heavy snow showers, current and former Brigg residents and sportsmen made it to St Mary's Church in Broughton for the funeral service in memory of Bryan "Sam" Simpson, held at noon on Wednesday, February 28.
Bryan, who died aged 79, was a long-serving player and official of Broughton Cricket Club, as well as being the Town Clerk for some years and treasurer of a number of local sports organisations. He was also a top cricket umpire.
Mark Cawkwell represented Brigg Town Cricket Club.
Following the service, conducted by the Rev David Eames, family and friends met up at nearby Broughton Workingmen's Club, where Bryan was well known.
Phil Glentworth delivered a fine tribute at the club, recalling a game Bryan played towards the end of his career. Despite suffering a facial injury, Bryan merely wiped away the blood and continued to keep wicket until Broughton achieved victory.
Phil said Bryan had introduced scores of youngsters to cricket in the town over more than 40 years, himself included. His contribution to local sport was immense and far-reaching.
At the conclusion of the funeral service, the famous theme tune accompanying the BBC's cricket coverage was played - Soul Limbo by Booker T and the MG's (Stax Records 1968).
