£490+ ASKING PRICE FOR BRIGG AUTHOR'S BOOK

Brigg Blog was interested to learn that a book we co-wrote in 1999 was being offered online - for more than £490!
People were clearly stunned by the price - judging by some of the comments posted - but we added a tounge-in-cheek suggestion that it was worth every penny. The original price was £12.99p.
Memory Lane - Scunthorpe & District was a millennium publication from the Scunthorpe Telegraph. We compiled it with colleague Chris Horan, the features editor, who is sadly no longer with us.
Chris, who was then Mr Nostalgia, wrote most of the text and we chipped in with pictures selected from the archive, captions, scanning prints and negatives and a few technical bits, as production editor.

Everything was saved on a Zip disc. Remember those, Apple Mac users of the past?
The book was printed by a firm in the Midlands, and they did a very good job.
Memory Lane - Scunthorpe & District  sold out, and we recall attending a pre-Christmas 'signing session' at W H Smith's store in Scunthorpe town centre.
Yes, there were a few takers on the day, in case you were wondering.
The post we saw about our book now  appears to have been removed. We presume there were no bids that came close to £490.
If it did sell, though, we'd be happy to add provenance by signing it!
We presented a copy of the book, in 1999, to Sir John Nelthorpe School, Brigg, where it went into the library in the grade one part of the site, off Grammar School Road.
Have many students have read it? Perhaps not the sort of book to appeal to the younger generation.
Chris and 'yours truly' produced a second 'Telegraph Nostalgia' book a couple of years later.
It cost less but was not as successful as the first.
The original was in hard-back, unlike the follow-up. So perhaps that was the difference.
