CUP RUN OVER FOR FOOTBALLERS DESPITE VALIANT EFFORT & BRILLIANT SAVES

REPORT AND PICTURES FROM LEE FIELDEN

Barnetby United’ FCs County Cup run is over following a 2-1 home defeat to Tetney Rovers at Silver Street.
They were made to pay for a poor opening 20 minutes that saw them trail 2-0 to their East Lincs combination visitors.
Sam Thirkill in goal pulled off 3 world class saves to keep his side in the game before captain Joe Scott pulled a goal back as Barnetby came into the game.
Cameron Hill thought he’d got Barnetby on level terms on the stroke of half time but the linesman’s flag had been raised earlier in the move.
The 2nd half saw Barnetby spurn two glorious chances to get on level terms while Thirkill again kept his side in it at the other end.
With home pressure mounting, Tetney held firm and saw the game out to clinch a place in the last 8.
