DRIVER ALERT: MAJOR A-ROAD CLOSURE IN BRIGG

Drivers should take note of an A-road closure coming up in Brigg tomorrow (Wednesday, October 11).
Delays are said to be "likely" as a result.
The A1084 will be closed at the Bigby Road level crossing while Network Rail undertakes the facility's annual test.
This is scheduled to be carried out between 6am and 2pm.
Diversions will be in place through  Kettleby Lane, Wrawby, while Network Rail is undertaking this work.

  1. Not sure what has happened but as of 5pm-ish, the closure was still in place with nobody working on it. It has all the appearance of remaining for a while yet.

  2. one of the steel plates that cover the gate mechanisms in the road is not secure or safe, so road not opening until replaced, its been like it for a year or more.

  4. I just spoken to one of the guys on site and they say it is a broken steel plate and are hoping it will be replaced within a few days and certainly less then a week. If all goes to plan

  6. I emailed the Council and got this (very prompt) reply:

"Network Rail closed their level crossing yesterday for routine maintenance and found a fault that meant it was not safe to allow vehicles to bear weight down on it. There are cracks in the lids which covers a 3-4 foot deep pit containing cranks and rodding for locking the gates. It has therefore been closed for safety. The lids are bespoke to this particular level crossing so it may take some time to get new ones manufactured, but Network Rail are on with it straight away. Network Rail have said it could take up to 6 weeks.
I am currently awaiting a report from a meeting that was being held on site at lunch time between council officers and Network Rail to see if there was any way that the crossing can be opened safety before that time."

  7. Update: the crossing is open again & when I got back home I had a further email from the Council:

"Having said all that, I have just had word that Network Rail have been able to come up with a plan, whether it be a permanent or temporary fix I am not sure, which allows them to safely re-open the crossing by 17.30hrs this evening."
