FROM SARAH HOWE, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL
A minimum of £250 will be available to each town or parish council to provide attractive planters, flowers and shrubs in their local communities.
North Lincolnshire Council will award the money and the amount will be dependent on the size of the area.
Cllr Rob Waltham (Brigg & Wolds), leader, North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This is an ongoing investment to help make our towns and villages more attractive to encourage more visitors and give a sense of pride in the local communities.
“The bigger the area, the more money will be awarded, for example, Barton has a population of more than 11,000 so would receive £6,000.
“This follows on from Scunthorpe and Ashby in Bloom scheme we announced recently. We pledged to role this out to other areas and I stand firm on my promise.
“The scheme would enable towns and villages to take part in prestigious competitions such as the CPRE Best Kept Village and East Midlands in Bloom, where we have already seen some success with Brigg and Winterton.
“The idea would be for this council to provide the money and individual town and parish councils to act as financial lead of the scheme and encourage local businesses and volunteers to get on board with the upkeep and maintenance of the displays.
“£60,000 is a significant amount and confirms our commitment to improving the whole of North Lincolnshire.”
