BRIGG COUNCILLORS TAKE UP CHALLENGE FOR LINDSEY LODGE HOSPICE

Coun Rob Waltham, the Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, who lives in Brigg, has stepped up to the challenge and is taking part in Challenge 10,000 throughout October.
North Lincolnshire Council and British Steel have teamed up to hold the North Lincolnshire workplace charity pedometer challenge, Challenge 10,000, throughout October to help improve health and wellbeing and raise money for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
Coun Waltham (Brigg & Wolds Ward) is joined by other cabinet members Couns Richard Hannigan, from Kirmington,  Carl Sherwood (Brigg & Wolds) and John Davison, from Bottesford, to put their legs to the test.
The challenge aims to encourage people to walk up to 10,000 steps a day (or more) as a means to help improve health and wellbeing.
Over 90 teams (of four) are taking part in the challenge from across a range of North Lincolnshire organisations.

They include North Lincolnshire Council, British Steel, NHS, Hitek Electronic, Angela Powell Property Management and North Lindsey College – plus many more local companies and schools.
So far over £2,000 has been raised for Lindsey Lodge Hospice.
Teams taking part have each donated £20 and they can also raise money throughout the challenge if they wish.
Coun Waltham is excited to take on the challenge, saying: “I walk on a regular basis so it is something I enjoy. I have signed up to the challenge to help raise awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing. As well as supporting the great local charity, Lindsey Lodge Hospice that does an amazing job.
“It is wonderful to see so many people taking in part in the challenge. I’m sure there will be a lot of healthy competition between the teams.
“Taking our health and wellbeing seriously is very important. Walking briskly each day can have a positive effect on our health. Including reducing the risk of chronic illnesses and improvements to mood and wellbeing, makes you feel fitter, healthier and happier, as well as helping to maintain a healthy weight.
“Over £2,000 has already been raised for Lindsey Lodge, which is fantastic.”
Lindsey Lodge Hospice Fundraiser Andy Hirst said: “We’re delighted with the response to this fantastic challenge!
“On behalf of Lindsey Lodge, I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their support and pay tribute to the organisers for all their hard work to ensure the success of this event.
“Every penny raised goes towards ensuring we provide the best possible hospice care to local people.”
Paul Cowling, Resources Manager - Projects and Technical Engineering Services at British Steel, has helped organise the challenge.
He said: “It is great to see so many people interested in improving their own health and wellbeing whilst helping raise money for a very worthwhile charity.
“We have got employees from across North Lincolnshire taking part in the challenge. If everyone walks 10,000 steps a day they will collectively walk a total of 57,660 miles throughout October, which will be a massive achievement.”
