ENJOY FREE PARKING FROM 10AM IN BRIGG DURING TOMORROW'S BIG CYCLE RACE

The full spectator’s guide to the North Lincolnshire Tour of Britain
BY CHRIS O'ROURKE, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE COUNCIL

North Lincolnshire is hosting stage three of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain on Tuesday 5 September. Here is everything you need to know to enjoy our spectator-friendly stage.
The race will start at 11am at Normanby Hall Country Park.
There will be free parking at the Hall and overflow parking in nearby Normanby village with plenty of staff and volunteers in the area to help you get parked and find your way to the race start.
If you are planning to head to Normanby Hall early to get a good spot to watch the start, you will be able to grab breakfast and a coffee from one of our traders inside the park from 7am.
The race finish at Central Park in Scunthorpe is just five miles from the start line at Normanby Hall, but the riders will cover 111 miles of the area before they get there so there is plenty of opportunity to see the race in multiple locations.
You can find a map of the full route on our website at nltour.co.uk as well as a list of road closures so you can plan your route around North Lincolnshire.
The race is expected to finish on the A18 Kingsway by Central Park at around 3.30pm.
Why not come to Central Park early and enjoy the atmosphere in our Race Village along the park’s paths and boulevards from10am. There will be dozens of stalls with food, drink, cycling gear, memorabilia and activities all on offer. You can also keep up with the race by following the live TV coverage on the big screen in the park.
Free car parking for the race finish is available at Quibell Park (DN17 1SR) – accessed from Brumby Wood Lane off Scotter Road.
All the public car parks in Scunthorpe town centre will also be offering free car parking from 10am on the day, just a short walk from Central Park.
Public car parks in Brigg will also be free from 10am.
For those cycling on the day, free bike parking is available in the Race Village in Central Park.
Sprints and King of the Mountains act as races within a race and provide the riders with an opportunity to gain extra points and show off their skills as a climber or sprinter.
If you want to watch a Sprint or King of the Mountain in North Lincolnshire, they will take place at:

  • Wharf Road, Crowle, outside the Axholme Academy (Sprint)
  • Messingham Road, Bottesford, before the crossroads with Manor Road (Sprint)
  • Greetwell, heading towards Kirton in Lindsey (King of the Mountains)
  • Church Street and Brigg Road, Scawby (Sprint)

  • Wrawby, heading towards Melton Ross (King of the Mountains)
  • Earlsgate Road (A1077), between Winteringham and Winterton (King of the Mountains)
Wherever you plan to watch the race, we would advise you arrive early if you want to catch a glimpse of the riders as we are expecting it to be very busy.
Look out for our friendly volunteer Race Makers in their bright white t-shirts who will happily answer any questions and lead you in the right direction. Around 200 local residents have volunteered to be Race Makers for the Tour of Britain in North Lincolnshire.
Cllr Rob Waltham, Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said:
“With the whole of stage three winding its way around North Lincolnshire, this is the perfect stage to see the professional riders numerous times along the route and still get to the finish line in Central Park.
“Communities and businesses across North Lincolnshire have really got behind the Tour of Britain by decorating their towns and villages and we expect to see hundreds of thousands out along the route supporting the riders on race day. We have also had an outstanding response from residents coming forward to volunteer to be ambassadors for North Lincolnshire and help the race run smoothly on the day.
“Hosting such a prestigious sporting event is a fantastic opportunity for North Lincolnshire and provide a boost to our local economy and jobs. This year’s Tour of Britain will be broadcast in over 129 countries so will really put North Lincolnshire on the map and showcase our area as the best place to live, work, visit and invest.”
The whole of this year’s Tour of Britain will be broadcast live on ITV4.

  2. Why from 10am?....all day free parking would seem to be the best option....now we're left with a silly situation of 2hr free parking, say from 8am and then from 10am it's free??!!.....and the parking wardens don't appear until after 8am.....so practically it is FREE all-day, ......seems to be a silly bit of baureatic nonsense to me!
