North Lincolnshire Council is undertaking a consultation about Scunthorpe buses - the first review for 14 years.
In reply to a question about public transport from Brigg Blog, a spokeswoman for the local authority said: "The consultation is for buses in Scunthorpe, however we welcome views on any bus services."
We asked her because Services 4 (pictured above) and 95 run between Scunthorpe and Brigg, while No 103 operates between the steel town and Kirton Lindsey.
Our own view is that Hornsby's Brigg-Scunthorpe No 4 service is excellent, popular and well used but that many Brigg passengers would also welcome a frequent, direct service along the A18 to Scunthorpe (not involving the lengthy drive around Ashby and Broughton undertaken by the current No 4).
Recently, when we made a Saturday trip from Cary Lane on the No 4 it went through Broughton, Ashby Ville (Lakeside Retail Park), then into Bottesford and took 55 minutes to reach Scunthorpe town centre.
The bus link between Brigg and Barnetby, connecting with the national rail network, definitely need improving, with close consideration being given to the timings so buses arrive before trains to Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Lincoln call at what is North Lincolnshire's largest station.
We know that rail campaigner Paul Johnson is aware of the potential of the council's consultation in getting train passengers' views across to local authority officers and councillors.
Integrated public transport is what's required, Brigg Blog and Paul both agree.
