BRIGG SPORTING STALWARTS ON PARADE

After taking this picture during the charity hockey matches at Brigg Recreation Ground on Sunday we wondered how many games of hockey in the local club's renowned green strip these gentlemen managed between them.
Thousands - that's for sure!
Keith Smith, on the left, was skipper of the men's 4th X1 when we first joined the Brigg club, and later managed the first team with great success.
Second left is Dave Brittain, the retired Sir John Nelthorpe School headteacher, who played hockey for Brigg from the 1960s certainly into the 1990s and possibly beyond that.
Adrian Broome, former club chairman (back to the camera), Val Jeffrey, third from right, Michael Burbidge, second right, and Keith Whall, right, also had lengthy careers.
And even the "youngster" Jason Atkin (centre) will have played hundreds of games for Brigg.
Most of these senior statesmen were also notable cricketers with various teams and some are still to be seen on the golf course.

  1. Hockey...not the game for the left-handed...!!
Are there any other sports that discriminate?

  3. .....oh, nearly forgot, my application to join the Royal Windsor Polo Club was rejected for being left-handed.
    My hand/foot bias inventory includes:
    Writing - right-handed,
    Racquet Games - right-handed,
    Cricket - left-handed.
    Football - left-footed..
    Rock-climbing - left-footed/right-handed..
...my son is the complete mirror opposite..and his son (grandson) displays my bias...
    Is it in the genes?
