CHARITY FUNDRAISERS FROM BRIGG SET OFF ON MARATHON

REPORT AND PICTURE BY KEN HARRISON, BRIGG MATTERS MAGAZINE

Sacrificing a quiet weekend, stalwart ambassadors of Brigg's charity, 'Pancreatic Cancer - Action' (PCA), Andrew (Sass) Markham and Lesley Whitehead packed their bikes late Friday afternoon to travel the wilds of the Pennines of North Yorkshire.
Sass and Lesley, today, Saturday, are taking part in a sponsored 60km return ride starting from the Siddal Rugby Club, Halifax and along the towpath of the late C17th Rochdale Canal to Littleborough, a town famous in the C19th for cotton mills  and coalmining, high up on the desolate moors on the county border of White Rose Yorkshire and Red Rose Lancashire.
During their departure, the pair had time to accept a last-minute, generous donation to PCA from Tony Petch, a painter and decorator from Brigg.
The Town's Deputy Mayor, Coun Donald Campbell, will be acting as Sass and Lesley's crew chief during the 60km sponsored bike...the distance chosen to reflect Sass's 60th birthday.
